Many liposuction and cosmetic surgical offices will tell patients they offer the Smartlipo™. But what is never told is how much Smartlipo™ laser energy is usually delivered during liposuction surgery. While specific liposuction protocols and laser energy levels are different for every office, we follow the protocols of leading published medical author and leading clinical investigator of laser lipolysis, Dr. Barry DiBernardo, of New Jersey.
Our laser liposuction protocols require thirty (30) to sixty (60) minutes of extra laser energy per body part. The additional laser energy put into the subcutaneous fat layers causes more fat melting. We typically use 60,000 to 80,000 joules of laser energy per body part. In using more laser energy we observe our patients obtaining a greater degree of skin and collagen contraction. This means smoother skin and less irregularities of the thin layer of fat that is required to be left intact after liposuction. As a result of more laser energy melting the fat, our patients receive better cosmetic results and satisfaction while meeting our high patient safety requirements.
